Fourteen Foot Bank Lighthouse
Fourteen Foot is located on the western side of the shipping channel in the Delaware Bay, about five miles N. of Brandywine Lighthouse. Its name is derived from the 14 feet of water that cover the shoal bank. This beautiful, quaint, "Victorian" structure is built on an iron caisson sunk 20 feet into the shoal. Its Fresnel lens was first lit December 1, 1886 and has been fully automated since 1972. Today, it is still a valuable beacon to all ships traveling through the bay from Philadelphia, PA to Cape May, NJ.
