Elmer, NJ Image size - 14"x 17 1/2" Unframed - $60, Framed & double matted - $200 Dodge's Market History Dodge's Market, a favorite Elmer, NJ landmark, opened its doors on June 19, 1941. The market became well known for its fresh produce, meats, homemade specialities and fancy fruit baskets along with peanuts and cashews roasted daily. Raymond Dodge, shown in this watercolor painting, personally selected seasonal fresh produce and fruit from farmers in neighboring counties. The signature item, however, was the creamy New York Sharp Cheese which arrived in 45 pound blocks and was cut to order. Dodge's Market was known as the "Sharp Cheese Headquarters". In April of 1998, this historical building reopened its doors, after being beautifully restored, under the management of the new store keeper, Donna Guarra. Artist Statement "Dodge's Market " is part of a series of watercolors entitled "Our Rural Heritage". Preserving this way of life is my passion and life-long commitment. If I can accurately paint these timeless images of rural South Jersey so the viewer can recall fond memories, then my life as an artist is fulfilled. |
